About ShutterMath

ShutterMath exists because the tools photographers actually use are frozen in time. The depth-of-field calculator that ranks #1 in most searches has a camera database that stops around 2013 — it has never heard of mirrorless cameras, let alone the phone in your pocket. We built the version we wanted to use: accurate math, a camera list that includes what you can buy today, and results you can print and take into the field.

What we're trying to fix

Who runs this

ShutterMath is an independent, single-operator project. We're photographers first — the site is funded by unobtrusive advertising (only after your consent, and only where it doesn't get in the way of the tools) so it can stay free, fast, and independent.

Questions, corrections, or a camera we're missing? Get in touch — we add new cameras and tools regularly.

Our principles

  1. Accuracy first. If a number is wrong, that's a bug — report it and we'll fix it.
  2. Free forever. No accounts, no paywalls, no watermarks on printable cheat sheets.
  3. Privacy by default. No tracking without consent; no data leaves your browser except what's needed to serve the page.
  4. Useful without ads. Every tool works fully with ads blocked or declined. Ads only ever sit in clearly marked slots, never over the controls.
